Björkdalgruvan

Björkdalgruvan is a gold mine in Kågedalen about 40 km NW of Skellefteå. There, gold is mined from gold-bearing quartz passages. In the picture in the stand, the quartz aisle is clearly visible, as a white line.

The stone that can be seen in the display case contains gold.

Did you know that:

  • Gold ore is mined and enriched in Björkdal.
  • The mine in Björkdal was originally an open pit, but now it is more of an underground mine.
  • The mine is owned by Mandalay Resources.
  • Annual ore production is about 1.3 Mt, which yields about 1.4 tons of gold.
  • The mine has an ore that lasts for about 7-10 years.
  • Björkdal prospecting in and around the mine to find more ore.
  • The mine produces 4 different gold concentrates that are sold to customers in Sweden and Europe.
